1) What are grains
Grains well… Barley is the most commonly used grain in brewing. Though wheat can also be used. Grains are what provide the fermentable components as well as the color and the flavor of your beer. Depending on how the grain has been malted and processed, the style of beer will be different and trust us there are infinite styles of beers.

2) What does yeast do
Yeasts gives you the carbonation and the alcohol, it does this as a by product of eating all those sugars that have come from your malts. There are many strains of yeast to choose from and each will contribute a different set of characteristics to your beer.

3) What are hops
Hops are perennial vines, what you want are the flowers or cones, these are used in the brewing process and they do many things to your beer, they provide the bitterness to balance our the sweetness of the malt. They also help provide the flavour and the aroma, they are the kept ingredient to head retention and they act as a natural preservative.  When you start brewing you will find there are many varieties of hops for your to choose from and each have their own characteristics.
