how to make homemade beer

When it comes to learning how to make homemade beer,  there are a few steps in the process, firstly, you could use a beer kit

Using a beer kit will give you a rough idea of the later stages of the beer brewing process, and that’s fantastic, you’ll know about the fermentation and bottling stage and you’ll end up picking up some of the hidden secrets of how is beer made

At some point into your homemade beer journey, you’ll go rather mad, just like we did, you can see how mad I personally went when I dreamt about how beer is made, I must say it was an interesting dream to say the least.

I know what you’re thinking, seriously please tell me how is beer made! Calm down, we’ll get to that, don’t worry.

First off have you ever wondered how beer is made? Of course, you have. Otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this, well first of here’s a flowchart of how beer is made this shows the exact process of beer being made. If that wasn’t enough and we don’t think it is, here’s a step by step process of exactly how to make homemade beer

By now you should know how to make homemade beer, if not, don’t worry we’ve plenty more information for you, by the end of this article we hope to have overloaded you with information on how beer is made at home.

Personally we love making beer at home, we can’t think of anything better to do as a hobby, it’s a hobby that we can enjoy on our own or with friends, it’s also a hobby that our other halfs enjoy, as there are homebrew groups you can join, which is one of the reasons why our other halfs love our hobby, it get’s us out of the house, though another reason our other halfs love our homebrewing ventures.

Frugality, homebrewing is much cheaper than going to the pub or buying beer from the store, so our wallets/purses are much fatter for it, which always makes the other half happy, those things that you’re saving for are reached much sooner, thanks to the savings you are making.

So how is beer made you ask? Well, it’s simple really, you take some grains which you work into a mash, then boil into wort. Once you’ve got to that stage things start to get really fun, you’re at the stage where you are going to add the hops, but not just the hops, you’ll be adding further spices and flavors, it’s at this stage that you get to create your beers flavor profile.

The hops will add bitterness to the beer, removing the sweetness you get from the grains, and the spices really allow you experiment with your beer.

After you’ve added the hops and the spices it’s time to move onto the fermentation stage, it’s at this stage that  you’re adding the alcohol content to the beer, you’re giving the beer life, it’s also at this stage that you get to choose whether to make an ale or a lager.

After the beer has fermented, the next stage is to move to the secondary fermentation stage, the first stage added alcohol and some carbonation, but this second stage is where you really get to improve things and get some proper fizz into that beer.

It’s the bottle stage, we want to ensure that we bottle condition the beer, this means we put the beer into bottles with some of the yeast and leave the yeast to continue eating the sugars and producing alcohol and carbonation.

Now some people may at this stage choose not to bottle condition, but instead, they will force the carbonation process, just like you would with a soda stream.
After a few months in the bottle, your beer is ready, you can finally taste the beer you made, that perfect homebrew. The homebrew made by your own two hands.

We raise a toast to you, my friend, it’s at this stage that you’ve joined the homebrewers, you’ve started your journey, a journey that you will travel many times, inventing and recreating many beers, some successes some failures.

We look forward to seeing you on the road, the road of the homebrewers, Hopefully, we’ve answered your question, the question about how to make homemade beer.
